Sacramento, CA – A two-day cricket tournament featuring 12 local teams of Afghan and Pakistani migrants took place in Sacramento, California, bringing together players and fans from both communities.
The event was organized by Afghan Hope community associations in California with financial support from the Mas Social Services Foundation, aiming to promote sportsmanship and unity among migrant youth.
Afghan Youngsters Crowned Champions
According to Jafar Wahidi, president of the Afghan Association of California and tournament organizer, the competition included six teams of Afghan migrants and six teams of Pakistani migrants. After a series of intense matches, Afghan Youngsters, representing Afghanistan, defeated Majestic XI, a Pakistani team, to claim the championship title.
Wahidi emphasized that the primary goal of the tournament was to encourage migrant youth to engage in sports activities, helping them build community connections and stay active in their new environment.
The tournament served as a celebration of cultural pride and athletic talent, strengthening ties between Afghan and Pakistani migrants through their shared love for cricket.

Gulshan Yousafzai, president of the Mas Social Services Foundation and financial supporter of the tournament, stated that the organization’s primary focus is on enhancing physical well-being and mental health within the migrant community. Supporting this cricket tournament, he added, was part of the foundation’s broader mission to foster community engagement and promote a healthy lifestyle.
The tournament drew hundreds of Afghan migrants from Sacramento and surrounding areas, who attended to cheer on their favorite teams and enjoy the exciting matches. The vibrant atmosphere reflected the deep passion for cricket within both Afghan and Pakistani communities, as well as the significance of such events in fostering cultural connections and emotional support for newly settled immigrants.

With this victory, Afghan Youngsters claimed their second championship title in cricket tournaments held for Afghan and Pakistani migrants in California, further solidifying their reputation as a top-performing team.
