Seminar on Afghan Migrants’ Challenges Held in Southern California

Los Angeles, California – A seminar titled “Migrants and Cultural & Social Challenges in America” was held in Southern California, focusing on the difficulties faced by newly arrived Afghan migrants in the U.S.

The event was organized by the Jami Cultural Association in collaboration with the Pars Equality Center and the Afghan Migrant Assistance Organization. It brought together a group of recently resettled Afghan migrants to discuss key issues related to their transition and adaptation to life in America.

Tariq Baha, president of the Jami Cultural Association, told Nowruz Media that the seminar addressed several pressing concerns, including children’s mental health, marital rights, domestic violence prevention, and an introduction to American social and legal systems.

According to Baha, many newly arrived Afghan migrants struggle with language barriers and daily life tasks, such as scheduling medical appointments, understanding health insurance policies, and navigating the education system. These challenges were at the forefront of discussions, providing attendees with guidance and resources to ease their transition.

Workshops & Community Engagement

In addition to discussions, art workshops were organized for migrant children, allowing them to express their experiences through painting. The children’s artwork was later displayed at the conclusion of the event, serving as a reflection of their emotions and perspectives on migration.

The seminar served as an important platform for raising awareness, offering guidance, and connecting Afghan migrants with support organizations in their new communities, aiming to ease cultural integration and enhance their overall well-being.
