Honoring the Achievements of Newly Arrived Afghan Immigrants in California

SACRAMENTO, CA – The achievements of 20 newly arrived Afghan immigrants in the United States were celebrated in Sacramento, California, with special awards recognizing their success and contributions.
The event, organized by the Mas Social Services Foundation, aimed to highlight the accomplishments of immigrant role models while emphasizing the importance of mental well-being in achieving success in a new country. The honorees were recognized for their outstanding progress and adaptation in various fields within a short period after their arrival.
Gulshan Yousafzai, president of the Mas Social Services Foundation, stated that the recognition of immigrants who arrived in the U.S. after August 2021 provides an opportunity to better understand the challenges of migration and the process of building a new life in a different society. She added that the event was designed to identify and celebrate individuals who serve as role models within the immigrant community, inspiring others to strive for success.
Yousafzai explained that a panel of judges from the Mas Foundation selected 20 newcomers who had made notable achievements in various fields within a short time. These individuals were honored at a special gathering attended by over 300 community members, immigrant families, and local leaders in Sacramento.
Dr. Farid Younos, former professor at California State University, East Bay, delivered a keynote speech on the role of mental health in immigrant success. He stressed that both physical and mental well-being are crucial for navigating the challenges of migration. He encouraged newcomers to understand American values and societal systems, set clear goals, and take advantage of the opportunities available in the U.S. for their personal and family success.
Sacramento, the capital of California, is home to one of the largest Afghan immigrant communities in the U.S., a population that continues to grow and thrive.
